Pet of the Month: Freddie Walley
Meet Freddie Walley, our January Pet of the Month! Freddie has been with us recently for a few procedures as he navigates his golden years, but as always, he’s been the happiest, most loving boy around.
Despite a few challenges, Freddie’s love for cheese keeps him smiling! Whether it’s a routine check-up or a surgical procedure, Freddie has remained as sweet as ever. We couldn’t be more proud of him for being such a trooper. Freddie, you are truly an inspiration to us all!
Orthopaedic Referrals: A Busy Start to the Year
The orthopaedic referral service has been incredibly busy, with several TPLO (Tibial Plateau Leveling Osteotomy)surgeries for cranial cruciate ligament injuries, as well as shoulder surgeries. We’ve also had an influx of patients seeking advanced treatment for osteoarthritis, including PRP and stem cell therapy, which are proving to be game-changers in managing joint pain and mobility issues.
Dr. Vanessa Waite, our expert in orthopaedics and mobility, is always happy to discuss these options with clients, as we strive to help pets live happier, pain-free lives.
Goodbye (For Now) to Weronika!
Our lovely student nurse Weronika will be heading back to college next week to finish her veterinary nursing degree, but don’t worry – this isn’t goodbye forever! We’re so proud of her and excited to announce that she will be returning to us at the end of the summer as a fully qualified veterinary nurse.
Weronika has been such a valuable member of our team, and we’ll miss her while she’s finishing her studies. Best of luck, Weronika – we can’t wait to have you back!

We’ve got some exciting news to share with you – starting in March, our vets will be opening full weekends! This means we’ll be extending our Saturday open hours to 9 AM – 5 PM, and we’ll also be open on Sundays from 10 AM – 4 PM.
We know many of you have busy schedules and sometimes need that extra flexibility for appointments, so we hope this change will make it easier for you to see us when you need to. We’re looking forward to seeing you more often and being able to accommodate even more patients.

In Case You Missed It…
January Pet Health Tip:
Lungworm in Dogs is a serious parasitic infection caused by Angiostrongylus vasorum, which can affect a dog's heart and lungs. It is typically contracted when dogs ingest infected slugs, snails, or frogs, or their slime. Symptoms can range from coughing, difficulty breathing, and lethargy to more severe signs like bleeding or seizures. Prevention involves regular treatment with a veterinary-prescribed worming product that covers lungworm, as well as avoiding environments where snails or slugs are common, especially during wet weather. Keeping your dog’s environment clean and being cautious with outdoor activities, particularly in high-risk areas, can significantly reduce the chance of infection. Regular vet check-ups and parasite prevention are key to keeping your dog safe from this potentially life-threatening condition.
Don't forget: Lungoworm prevention is included in your Fire Plan membership. If you haven't signed your pet up yet, sign up here

As always, thank you for trusting us with your pet’s care. We look forward to seeing you all soon, whether for a routine check-up, an osteoarthritis seminar, or our extended weekend hours starting in March.
Wishing you and your pets a healthy and happy February!
