September highlights at The Vet Station

What an amazing month we have had!

We had three birthdays at The Vet Station, our wonderful head of client care, Kate, our fantastic vet Gill and Phoenix the practice pooch. We filled them up with cake of course (even Phoenix – dog friendly version of course).

Surgical successes

This month we completed five TPLO surgeries on dogs referred with ruptured cranial cruciate ligaments, all of which are doing well and are now seeing Lucy our resident physiotherapist on Wednesdays. We have a blog all about cruciate ligament disease in dogs if you would like to read it.

We also performed a carpal arthrodesis in a little dog who had ruptured ‘wrist’ ligaments and fixed a broken leg in a poor cat who had had a pile of logs fall on her, breaking her femur into four pieces. Luckily head vet Vanessa has been repairing broken legs for over 15 years and was able to get it back together and save the leg.

Re-launch of the Fire Plan

This summer we re-launched our famous Fire Plan, with our logo ‘preventing fires, not putting them out’. We are so pleased to see that this has been so popular with all our lovely clients. We managed to get it down to the bargain price of just £29 a month, and included in it unlimited veterinary and nurse consultations in addition to the usual flea, wormer, vaccinations and discounts of services.

It has been heart-warming to see what a difference this has made in breaking down the barriers to bringing your pets to us.  Let us know if you want to sign your pet up and save some money today!

Community events

The last Wednesday Walkies was also in September, as the dark nights and bad weather drew in. It was amazing to see 20 plus dogs and their lovely humans joining us every Wednesday as we walked and talked our way around Hurst Park. If you missed out or are missing the walk, don’t worry, they will be back in Spring! Keep an eye on our socials for any spontaneous weekend walks that we may organise.

We ended September with our head vet and founder Vanessa judging a local dog show which was run by Hurst Park Residents Association. It was so much fun and just an amazing sense of community spirit. If you are a member of the association, keep an eye out for the next event. Especially the sausage catching category, where we saw, for the first time in history, a Labrador (Luna!) miss a sausage. That will never be seen again! Thank you Charlotte for inviting us to judge that.

Pet of the month: Inka

Pet of the Month: Inka

Finally our pet of the month is the lovely Inka! The most beautiful and kind souled dog. She is a beautiful black Labrador that had not one, but two surgeries this month. First a very successful laparoscopic (key-hole) spay.

Then when she had two suspicious lumps pop up, we quickly removed those to get them analysed and make sure they are not baddies. Throughout it all she was so absolutely sweet and loving. Who can beat Labrador eyes?
